CDAT DAY OF THE DEAD CARNEVAL

"CDAT tried an Academy-wide project focused on charity: the Relay for Life "Carnaval del Dia de los Muertos - A Celebration of Life".  Kids of all ages had a great time playing carnival games, most of which were actually a math and technology project!"

CDAT partnered with Relay for Life, creating a "Day of the Dead" themed carnival. Freshmen and Sophomores were tasked to make games to play while instilling what they've learned in their maths classes.

My group made a tree out of cardboard. The goal of the game was to choose an egg (soul) off the tree. Then, the player would look inside to see if they won nothing, candy, or a prize. First, we found a cardboard tube and sawed it in half, and then proceeded to drill holes through cardboard. Then we stabbed PVC pipes through the holes to simulate branches. The makeshift tree endured a process of intense black edgy spray painting, and we started to decorate it.

On the day of the carnival, of November 7th, I was pretty rushed since I also had Science Fair occurring before the carnival. When we were setting up, I was really excited! Our hard work was proudly displayed for all to see... standing out brilliantly among the other games (I could be biased...). I was ready to provide a great experience for my game players. Our "Tree of Lost souls" was targeting at kids of younger ages, and they were attracted because of the simple game.

I think our game was very successful and impressive. I enjoyed interacting with the people, and even making the tree (despite the fact I had a bunch of stuff going on).

It was very fun to build and decorate the tree-- our hard work was awarded with "The Most Beautiful Project Award".
