WPC TECH PROGRAM

Women Programming Code (WPC) is an after-school program for girls only who have an interest or want to learn about technology and computing in a fun and friendly environment.

In this program, participants will learn the basics of coding apps, games, graphic design and web development by completing the curriculum along with project-based learning and problem-solving. Participants will be using Hour of Code to learn some basics of programming and Android Studio to learn to make basic Android apps. Participants will also be learning web development along with graphic design.

My friend applied for a $3,000 grant with NCWIT ( National Center for Women and Information Technology) AspireIT to have a camp for young girls who are interested in computing. NCWIT AspireIT connects high school and college women with K-12 girls interested in computing. WPC is sponsored by NCWIT, who receives support from Intel, Microsoft, and Google.

I became a co-leader for the event. Our Mission was to inspire young girls into computing and technology fields to close the gender gap in technology and use their knowledge in technology to make a difference in the world.

I served as the main program planner and entertainer for the camp and created a schedule of activities for us to teach and do with them; I taught technology skills to the girls and had a lot of fun! I also created the logo and t-shirt for the camp.
